Hi guys,
Painted two walls with no issues on the their third wall this morning and not long after the first coat got pin holes all over it, see photos.
I've painted hundreds of rooms and never encountered this.
The original paint although not a matt is low sheen.
Any ideas how I can sort this out and what may have caused it.

Cheers.

Did you clean the wall first?

When was it last decorated? Is it a kitchen?

External wall?

All walls prepped the same.
Internal lounge wall.
Not sure when it would have been last painted but under ten years I believe.

Cheers.

Sorry, yes.
What you thinking it could have been?
To be honest it looks like/similar to silicone inclusion which we used to get respraying cars and would mean removing the new paint and using a specialist cleaning solution to deep clean before repainting.
This isn't a car and I hope that's not going to be the solution!!!!!!
Cheers.

I was wondering if it was a dirt or grease film, most common in kitchens or rooms with an open or gas fire, or smokers.

If the rest of the paint is adhering well, and will not peel or scrape off, I think I'd dry dabbing spots of paint onto the pinholes in an inconspicuous test area to see if it will stick.

On surfaces that are dirty, sooty or greasy, rollering on another coat can pull off the previous one. These need scrubbing clean and wiping with an old towel before the dirt dries back.

Like you I think it's something left on the original paint surface but can see why it's just the one wall.
I'll let it full dry and see how paint takes to it then.
Thanks for the advise.

Did it bubble up where the pin holes are? It could be spray from a can of pop or residue from some cleaning spray.

No, no bubbling they just appeared quickly.
It's not spray from a can of pop and the hole sizes are to uniform and over the entire wall, top to bottom.

Is the white the colour the wall was before you painted? Could it be misses? If not misses then I guess it must be something on the wall. What it is though could be anything. I don't suppose the ceiling has been replastered or anything?

Yeah the walls were white/magnolia.
Definitely not misses.
The ceiling and walls got skimmed about ten years ago at the same time so it's not PVA or similar.
I agree with you and John though it's got to be something on the wall.
I'll let it dry out and then try a couple different things and let you know how I get on.
Cheers.

What kind of roller are you using, and was it the first wall that you painted with that roller in that room. I have seen foam rollers do that but it wouldn't conclusively explain why it only happened on one wall.

I don't think that it is silicone contamination- you are correct that it causes fisheyes but I cannot see any raised edges to the pools.

My initial advice would be to apply the next coat and if they reappear, do a wet on wet coat- by that I mean roll the wall, wait a while and then put another coat on whilst the first is still wet.

Just some quick feed back.
I touched up a some area and although the pin holes still showed through it seemed to at least leave a light film over them.
So I've gone the wall further coats and the pin holes are disappearing, although some still remain they are not so noticeable.
Thanks for the advise.
