hi guys,

I have recently installed a few floodlights in my back garden, with no shelter from the elements. different wattages (30, 30, 20 and a couple of e27).

All worked for a few days (a few months for the 20W) but at some point they all died in exactly the same way, meaning I can hear the click from the PIR when I get close but no light... all are IP 44, is that not enought for outdoor unsheltered use ?

The simple installation has been carried out just connecting the cables to the mains and all the screws have been tightened as much as possible, the glands properly tightened...

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

One last question, do you think given the intended use (i.e. outdoors with full exposure to the elements) IP 44 is enough if a good make is used ?

cheers!

IP44 is good enough for rain but not for being hosed down.

is IP54 which provides protection against dust and insects getting into the sensor.

In my experience I have to report mix reviews wrt LIDLs electrical/diy products...

some have been very good (e.g. air compressor, cordless drill, screwdriver/spanner set et al.) but lights? really rubbish... I guess being generic discount LRO they are subject to bad suppliers more than their specialized counterparts, also because their purchasing dept aren't necessarily as knowledgeable as they should be, otherwise they would not jeopardize their "brands" with sub-standard products...

pity I can't find the receipt for the guarantee...though I bought some new ones, can't be bothered with the waiting.
