I am currently having an extension built and the Project is nearing completion. The pitched roof has been created and the only thing left to do is fix a plastic barge board to each side of the sloped gable Walls under the eves - the guttering and downshift has already been attached at the front. Before the barge boards are fixed should the gaps between the outer bricks (due To the slope) be filled with smaller bricks.

The brickwork should extend beyond the barge soffit line so that no gaps are visible once the soffit is fixed.

This can be done crudely without having to pay much attention to cutting the bricks on the slope provided they do not extend beyond the top of the ladder rafter.

You may have to do some fiddly cuts where the ladder noggins poke through.

Thanks for the response. The builder has explained they the board will be placed over the gaps resulting in a clean finish. However, I am concerned that this will result in less thermal and sound insulation (the room will be used as a home cinema and one wall faces into neighbour's garden) than filling the gaps with small angular bricks (as done with the internal blocks).

If that is the case then you will be leaking a lot more noise via the windows.

The area where there will be only one skin of brickwork should be imsulated too.. Foil board cut between rafters is common.
