I am planning to replace the existing gravity fed DHW & pumped CH boiler with a condensing combi. All existing microbore CH pipework will be replaced throughout.
Ground floor:
Existing radiators will be replaced on the ground floor except for the kitchen, ground floor toilet and utility room where a wet underfloor system is desirable.
First Floor:
First floor radiators will also be replaced except for the 2 shower/bathrooms where towel rails will be installed together with wet underfloor heating.
How do I manage the earlier warm-up requirement of rooms using underfloor heating to compensate for the thermal lag of such systems especially when it it is common practice to use the cooler CH return to the boiler to drive the underfloor system?
Existing floors are chipboard panels on suspended joists for both ground and first floors. The floor panels will be replaced where underfloor heating is required (kitchen, utility room and bathrooms are to be completelely refurbished anyway - effectively making these areas a 'new build'). Tiled floors are the preferred finish. Are there systems that:
a) ensure downward loss of heat on the ground floor is absolutely minimised through effective insulation (and not just a token gesture towards insulation)
b) have solved the problem of differential expansion of floor joists, flooring panels and tiles?
Finally does anyone know if there are standards in the UK for specifying materials, adhesives, tile materials and construction methods appropriate ti underfloor heating.
