I am replacing the old wattle ceiling in my Victorian kitchen. I have done this before on lower ceilings in another house but these are 2.7 meters high. Is the best method making a "I" brace and struggling or how would an expert do this bearing in mind getting someone to help me is doubtful.

I plan on using 1200x600 sheets to make it that bit eaiser.

To hold the board while you fix it, get a pair of Boardmates. 1200 x 1200 sheets are very easy for 1 person to hold and fix; 1200 x 2400 possible but it really helps to have a second person to help lift them. See: http://www.boardmate.com/acthow.html

If you add a prop you can also wedge the sheet to the ceiling for hands-free fixing. See item 330001 in the second page of http://www.refina.co.uk/pdfs/drywall_boardtools.pdf.

On the same page you will see that Refina also do a much more expensive lifting gadget too.

Thanks for that Plot1, I'll give them a call for a price.

half a dozen milk crates some timber battens and a couple of three quarter ply boards will give yo a comfortable working height.
