Hi,

I am in the process of redecorating my house and wondered if you could advise on the following issue I have. All ceilings, top and bottom appear to be made from a board - it looks like whitish grey plaster sandwiched between two pieces of course paper (brown/grey). Then a thin skim of grey plaster has been put on to hide the sheets and nails. The house is a 1955 ish house, and ceilings are original.

I had a small asbestos insulting board removed that was behind a gas fire, but wondered if this could be a form of asbestos board or asbestos cement board - the board is light, powdery and close up has small bubbles in it.

Your thoughts would be great. Thanks

I can't say what the board is, but better to err on the side of caution, until you know for sure. I believe you can have a sample tested for asbestos,, that's what i would do.

Does sound like plasterboard to me although it wouldn't be sensible for me to tell you it isn't asbestos. As roughcaster has said, you can get a sample tested.

Preying that this stuff is plaster ring I have it in my house and am scared half to death it's asbestos hope that I get a reply to whether it was or not

I have similar stuff in my 1920s flat. I'm pretty sure this is just old plasterboard as the paper on mine is brown too. Can you see any fibers in the actual plaster? Otherwise for peace of mind get it tested for 50 quid. Also you can test other materials at the same time for a tenner each additional material which is worth doing if you have artex ceilings you want to scrape off. I never tested the plasterboard, though wish I had as I ended up smashing and cutting loads of it and dust went everywhere!
