OK, i've just built a stud wall and the difference between the original wall and the new plaster board is max 8mm.

Is this too much of a difference to plaster?

Should I batten behind the board to reduce the difference?

Or is there another way?

Cheers

8mm is too much for Multi Finish, certainly in 1 hit & probably 2. I've just done an en-suiet & had to use 3mm packers behind tile backer boards in the shower area because they were supplied 12mm & the acoustic board going next to it was 15mm  If you don’t want to pack behind or overboard as suggested (although I’m not sure how easy it is to get 6mm board), I would apply a base coat to bring out the PB level with the adjacent wall. Use Bonding plaster & then skim the whole wall with Multifinish. If the wall is long enough, you may get away with blending the Bonding out over the PB rather than do the whole wall but you obviously don’t want a wall that’s visibly banana shaped! Chip the corner of the plaster away to give a jagged edge where the stud meets the existing wall, this provides a good key for the new plaster; after you’ve got the base coat on the PB to the same level as the old wall, apply 3 overlapping strips of reinforcing tape where the 2 join & skim over.

you can buy 6mm plasterboard ;)
Can you! I’ve never seen any, who makes/stocks it?
