What are the different applications for Tapered edge plasterboard as seen against square edge plaster board?

Tapered edge boards are used for unplastered dry lining applications where the boards joints are just “taped & filled” & then the whole wall sealed & then painted. Square edge boards are used where the whole wall is to be plaster skimmed; joints are still taped.

Personally I think tape & fill is fine for commercial applications but has disadvantages when used in a domestic environment.

I agree, the finish can often be poor and the fine dust created when sanding gets everywhere

Many thanks, all is now clear - straight edge boards it is with skim.
