Hi all, long time lurker here.

I'm intending to plasterboard my loftspace soon and from what i can gather it's a bit of a minefield.

Ultimately, what i want to achieve is a fairly clean mostly dust free loft space.

It's not going to be a 'room' so i'm not going through building control, and neither do i intend to have it plastered.

The reason i'd like to plasterboard it, is that i'll be having a homeserver sat up there and a switch and various other bits of technical guff that don't like too much dust floating around. I'll be up there fairly frequently sat in front of the server doing a bit of tweaking etc and i'd rather not have to change into my scruffs everytime i nip up there.

I've boarded out the floor already over some new insulation, but the next step is to insulate the loft space itself and then plasterboard.

From what i can gather, the foil stuff is the best way of insulating a loft, and then plasterboard straight over that, i plan on using the most lightweight plasterboard (9.5mm?). I will need to insulate to avoid extreme temperatures because of the equipment.

Is there anything else I need to take into consideration?

Thanks in a advance

:D

Sounds a sensible thing to try to use some loft space for this server room - but if you have insulated the floor, surely no heat will come up into it and will it not get cold & damp in there? This I'd think is more of a problem than dust to your equipment.
Are you planning on an additional heat source in there (excluding your server ;) )

It's more the warmth in the summer i'm concerned about, the cold shouldn't really damage the electronics, damp isn't a problem either really.

I know loftspaces get boiling hot in the summer and I don't want to have tons of fans running up there all the time :(

How about looking at some kind of mechanical ventilation so in summer, the loft doesn't get too hot, thus causing the sever to malfunction?
