hi guys,

i couldnt really see this topic fitting in any other forum so i put it here. i hope someone can help me.

i am plasterboarding my kitchen ceiling ready for a friend to plaster. the problem i have is that where they plasterboard meets, the plasterboards are not level.(i have only put two pieces up so far due to this)

the platerboards are flush against each other and are nailed right up to the joists but where they meet, one is higher than the other. the difference is about the thickness of the board.

i assume that this is not normal and can not be covered by plastering???

is there a simple solution to resolving this???

any help will be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Are all the plasterboards the same thickness :?: They are available in difference thickness, 9mm & 12.5mm

Sorry, what I meant was, you may have 12.5mm with the 9mm plasterboard together, a mixture of the two maybe?

oh ok. no they are the same thickness. and the ceiling i removed seemed level so im kinda bewildered as to why these do not meet at the same level....

Hmm, the ceiling joists can't be level.........can you do a photo?

Or the ceiling joists is twisted, high and low point?

I'm trying to understand how you're getting 9mm difference, I use a straight edge under the ceiling joists to check for level and I pack it out with strip of timber although I know some plasterer pack it out with dot & dab adhesive between the plasterboard backing and the joists, best to have a word with your plasterer to see what he think.

The ceiling joist cant be level. You'd be better advised to use 12.5mm boards for ceilings as they are more rigid and less likely to sag. You'll have to line out all the joists first if they are all twisted. If its just that one and you say its about 9mm out then just run a thin strip of your plasterboard over the lenght of and it then overboard it as normal.
