Can any one tell me if its okay to plaster directly on to ply and if so what surface prep I might need to do?

I revoved the tiles from below a kitchen window to reveal a section that has been boxed in with ply.the area below the window is getting re tiled but i was going to skim thie upper area of the wall and give it a fresh coat of paint. Was wondering if I should just skim the entire wall but not sure how to tackle the section of ply.

Any sugestions?

The area to be re-tiled does not require to be plastered, but if you are plasterering over plywood (not best surface to plaster, but not undoable).
It will need priming with PVA to seal the surface up and stop suction of plaster mix, any joints will need to be taped.
It could be likely that it will crack, depending on suction and movement, so
ideally I would either remove ply and replace with plasterboard or plasterboard over ply.

Cheers.

I just skimmed the wall from the window ledge up wards. Like you suggested. Tiles will I've going from the work top up to the window ledge so I'll see how that goes.

Thanks
Rob
