I have plastered over a small area of breeze block / mortar. I wet the area first, the plaster went on nice and smooth, however within five minutes of finishing the whole area was crazed with small cracks. I've got 2-3 other areas to do yet. Where did I go wrong ?

you should of used a backing plaster first ie; bonding, hardwall, toughcoat, browning or sand and cement or dot and dab plasterboards. Once youve got the wall flat and keyed up for the next coat thats when you apply multi finish, this type of plaster is a finishing plaster and shouldnt be applied onto blocks or bricks.

By combining all the answers I've received I started with a layer of sand and cement, sealed it with diluted PVA then a top coat of multi finish. Took me half a day to do a couple of square feet but it's as smooth as glass and not a crack in sight !! Thanks to all who responded.
