Iv always been told by my heating engineer that copper is far superior than plastic piping for HCH.

Didnt British Gas have issues with insuring systems that included plastic in the early days?

Now i keep reading Plastic is the way to go, flexible and gives better distribution of water etc.

Whats the DIYnot verdict

Copper all the way, a well-designed system is what gives better distribution of water, not the material used to construct it

Plastic is used for UFH, and works ok for that. But for everything else, all things being equal, I would use copper :)

I always use copper because it is more professional and looks much better and has a proven lifespan, but plastic has its uses.
Like today i fkd about for around 30 mins trying to hook a bit copper up to a rad 10ft away under an inaccessible part of a floor with hole coming through blind side of a joist. After 2 mins i was thinking i wish i had a bit Hep in the van (or 10mm copper)

Yes they did but the plastic fittings are better now than they were and also if they didn't take them on they would be missing out on a large chunk of the market.
