Hi

Our house has really poor hot water pressure around the house, there is plenty of head height (nearly 2 metres) between the hot water cylinder and the cold water tank.

Could it be the gate valve needs replacing or there is silt in the pipe between the cold water tank and the hot water tank

Its an old fashioned looking tap (house built in the 1960's) on the pipe in the loft which feeds the hot water cylinder

We have a new boiler fitted 2 years ago and the 2 galvanised tanks in the loft were replaced with one plastic cold water tank as we now have a closed system boiler.

Any ideas?

So long as the gate valve is fully open, there shouldn't be any particular restriction so check the tank outlet - you may be surprised how much crud there is around there!
After that, its the pipe to the bottom of the copper cylinder thats suspect as its water going in there that shoves the hot out of the top.

Particularly look for loft insulation that's fallen in.

Where are the hot taps in comparison to the cylinder? You could try backflushing the pipe work using mains cold water onto a hot outlet with a hose for a minute or so. This may dislodge any partial blockages. It could also stir up a lot of sediment in the cylinder, and cloud up the hot water for a while. Just a warning. And be careful not to overflow the storage tank.
