Our builder finished six months ago now and I keep looking at the plastering. Is this acceptable or am I right to request it to be redone ?

Well, it's not the best.

One of two things -

1 - Ask him to redo it, will it be any better?

2 - Mist coat emulsion it, fill and sand down.

Get him to pay for the decorator to sort.

I can see why you are annoyed.

As per @Bonni 's post, will he be able to improve it?

He could get a decent plaster to go over it again- that is a day's labour (set up, prep etc) Then just over a half day to repaint the ceiling and re-cut in.

6 months ago and only now you want to confront the builder?
Because we have had so many problems with our build, we have waited 11 months for the plumber to do his work, in that eleven months we have only half the radiators installed, still waiting for our utility to be finished ( we have a new plumber fixing all the issues and they are brilliant ). The system has an issue and the “new” floor is going to have to pulled up to find the fault. We have lived in a building site for over two years, we are just sick to death of poor workmanship, there isn’t one tradesman we would recommend. We haven’t questioned any prices, we have paid immediately. We have relied on trusting local tradesman to do a good job.
From the first builder we have had to rip up newly laid drainage to replace because it wasn’t installed properly, we have ripped up that concrete floor 12m by 4m to get to that drainage and also because the levels where completely wrong leaving it impossible to install underfloor heating as the design. We found structural issues where six wind posts had been cut short and not tied into the building at all.
So please forgive me that it’s me taken 6 months to get to place that I am asking for opinions.

Doubt the builder will return to fix plastering.....

AkaAndrew,

Ignore the wannabe troll in Posts # 4&6.

You know what you've been through and why.

I'm sorry for your troubles & can well believe how rotten it must be for you.
Its a bit late in the day but perhaps if you follow the various forums on here & check out some youtube vids it might help when next you are dealing with the building trade?

I hate to see work like this its shocking how the hell did he end up with all those channels and divets? Was the ceiling flat befor he started?

Think you have those 'troll' post numbers wrong!

That is truly shocking work, that builder should take his tools and throw them in the nearest river, it looks as though he hasn't really tried to leave a nice finish, people like him give the trade a bad name, I would seek advice from a local plasterer to see if an over skim would put it right or whether it needs over boarding and skimming again, but first you need to get the original builder back first to see if he will remedy it or pay to get is remedied
