Porticos

Afternoon.

I'm looking to have a stone portico build to the front of my house. Do I need a specialist portico builder? Can good bricklayers / stone masons do it? What's the best way to go about it?

Any advice would be appreciated.

We were involved in the design of a portico a while back.

We designed an RC slab and footings and an architectural stonework company supplied hollow non-structural columns in sections which were then filled with reinforced concrete. We also designed an RC ring beam that supported the cornice, and all was then installed by the building contractor

There are probably alternative construction methods though...
