I'm going to build some stud to divide the room, It will continue in line with the small wall (shown here with the horizontal wallpaper).

I only want to skim the new stud up to the existing small wallpapered wall.

How far back should the new stud be positioned; 2 or 3mm?

Thanks.

The studwork should be (thickness of p/board plus 2-3 mm for skim coat..) back from existing wall. But you will have a gap where the two walls meet do you realise that? And have made provisions to hide the gap.

And another variation would be to stud flush with the short wall and run sheeting right through over the existing wall so's there's no joint line to crack (as it will).
