Hi, i have a Potterton Netaheat profile 60e, which requires manual startup via the button on the underside of the boiler.

I set time for heating and hot water and sometimes it comes on sometimes it requures manual start up.

At first a plumber thought the power socket was the problem, this was changed and i even plugged it into a seperate power supply the same intermittent manual start up was required.

Quite an annoying problem because in the mornings when you wake and expect hot water its not there because the boiler never fired up!

Once manual started up it functions fine.

Suggestions would be welcomed.

this is the overheat stat operating. could be caused by several things...

boiler stat not working correctly

pump overrun stat not working(or not even connected)

no by-pass

blockage in system.........the list goes on

It is not a manual start, but the cancelling of a protective device. It indicates a failure that is bad enough to cut out the boiler completely. Continuously resetting can lead to further costs

A plumber has suggested that i hav a valve problem, based on the replies i have had, my questions would be:

1. Is it a boiler or system problem?
2. Do i need a bolier or plumber specialist?
3. What should i beware of when calling these people in?
4. are specific tests i can run? to locate fault?

Thanks

The one important point that is an absolute must: corgi registered. Ask him to show you his card and check that it is up to date and that he is the guy in the picture. No excuses like: I am corgi, just forgot my card. Or: I have been for years, I just did not pay the money this year
Who to call out? What is in a name? For me, I don’t care if you call me gas-man, plumber, gasfitter, rgi, or Susan; as long as you pay me. I would recommend to get someone who specialises in boilers rather than a chap who will do whatever comes along.
As from other replies has become clear, it is hard to say what the problem is without testing.
