Hi,

My potterton performa 28i is sick!! It is continually losing water out of the what I would call the overflow pipe (about a litre a day) - thus needs topping up via the filling loop at least once a day usually more. The engineer has changed the safety value twice, the overheat thermostat, the diverta switch and nonthing has help. I have even pumped up the pressure vessell to 1 bar.

The system pressure guage will continually fluctuate. When i have filled it up the system with water to 1.5 bar when the heating is on it will go up 3bar and drop back down until empty!!

Any ideas?? Help!!!!

my engineer is not keen to do this he as says he has to take boiler off wall etc to fit and has suggested a new boiler.

Do you know if you should drain part of the system down before pumping up the pressure vessel

Thanks. Was told that should drain 1 raditor to reduce pressure in the system before topping up the pressure vessel. is this correct?

Im sure others have thought of this but its a dodge ive used before on a temporary basis until a proper fix can be done.

Just drain a rad in an unused room by about 75/80% then turn the valves back on,the rad then acts as an expansion vessel.
