Can anybody help me get the pilot light back on and my boiler firing again.

The boilers I have had in the past have had manual switches and buttons to hold in to relight a pilot light.

My Potterton Profile doesn't seem to have any of these things and it all looks automatic with wiring leading from a circuit board to the spark.

All other electrical things are working like the pump and the programmer, but I did take the fuse out a little while ago to change the pump.

I am a novice  but I am handy when I get the right advice. We can't smell gas and I have run out of ideas apart from checking all the connections.

if you look under the boiler there is a hole about the size of a ten pence piece. if you put your finger inside it there is a reset button which may bring your boiler back on. beware though as this is an over heat thermostat so something has made this trip. check the pump is circulating and check that the header tank is full of water.

My Potterton Profile 50e will not light. Please somebody reassure me that I have not meddled to far and knackered it!!

I recently changed the grundfos pump as the old one was gunged up with red/brown rusty crap. The new pump was working fine and there is water does dribble out when I take the bleed screw out.

Also I have drained some water from the header tank and put some sludge remover in. Everything was working fine and everything seems to be working (pump, controller, fan works and boiler makes all the right noises.

I hope this is not the cause of an over-heat shutting the boiler off.

I have tried the reset switch and turning the boiler on and off in accordance with Potterton instructions downloaded from their site. Still no pilot light.

Perhaps I should drain the system and refill it? Could I have trapped air in the system somehow as the pipes and water tank do gurgle when I switch it on?

 Help!

I guess this shows the value of these forums, as I came across Doug's comment nearly eight years after he posted it! I was trying to find out why my boiler wouldn't fire after a leak in the system. I didn't know about the reset underneath (though it makes perfect sense to have some form of emergency cutout). Hey presto, the system works! Thanks Doug

hi i had the same problem with the same model,on two occasions one of which this morning, gonna sound daft but, with boiler on give it a medium slap from both sides and mine kicked in straight away, failing that it could be the fan at top of boiler getting stuck, same remedy again,i paid some one £60 to do the same thing last winter,so give it atry,if dont work, call engineer, remember to reset boiler after remedy hope thar works

n't smell gas and I have run out of ideas apart from checking all the connections.

see my post in the Potterton Profile Prima Air Pressure sensing" thread for an explanation of how the sequence should be

If you can smell gas and the PV solenoid is opening, but you have no spark, unless the HT lead is shorting to the case, then the problem is wikh the pcb (407677)

These boilers operate with positive air pressure. Make sure the case is fitting properly to prevent air leaks.
