Potterton puma 80 timer problem

Hi everyone
i have a potterton puma 80
the hot water works fine but the central heating wont work from the external timer. if you switch to constant it works ok, but is on all the time.
i have changed the timer (new) and even changed the main circuit board. i also checked the switch which is ok.
please can anyone help.
