power rating on an oven

hi

been looking at the oven in our house - it was there when we bought the house.

it is a gas hob with an electric oven.

the oven has a cable with a standard moulded 3 pin domestic plug on the end. Looks like a 3 amp or 13 amp fuse in it.

Is this ok to plug back into the wall socket which supplies the cooker only??

on the back of the oven, it states:

230v ac 2W
nominal power consumption: 10 , 5 kW

that seems like a lot of power and is nearly 46 amps on the cable!!! surely this cant be right?? is not an old oven either prob 2 or 3 years at most.

yeah i will take a pic of the label and post it up.

where it says what looks like 10.5 kW, it is actually 10 , 5 kW (numbers seperated by a comma)

will get the pic up tomorrow.

10.5kw seems a bit large for a domestic oven, if it is 10.5kwh it means it will make your meter tick over 10.5kwh for every hour it is used.

Did the thought that you must have misread the data plate not occur to you?

if it is 10.5kwh it means it will make your meter tick over 10.5kwh for every hour it is used.

No - they quote some useless and mythical "kWh" figure for ovens, not related directly to the actual rating but meant to be indicative of how efficient they are - you can compare one oven to another.

Presumably it's based on how much energy it uses to cook some standard meal. Baked brussels sprouts?
