Installing white oak staircase and internal doors, should I have a french polisher to finish or buy prefinished?

french polish doesn't suit oak in my opinion and takes extra work because the grain is so open. I would wax it.

I think it depends on what the monetary difference is between prefinished and non-finished. You could always do it yourself? You might make quite a saving? 2 coats of shellac sanding sealer finished by a coat of Superwax would give you a stunning finish. easy to apply but quite labour intensive. Just using wax would be a real labour love and needs much more 'elbow grease'.

Hope this helps
