preparing your desktop

Hi there,my son has gone to go in to his user account on our pc and the screen has displayed a preparing your desktop page instead of his usual one.I dont know what he has clicked but now he cant access his homepage/user account at all.Can anyone help me as to restore his account details...would be very grateful thanks

I don't use Vista so if these steps don't work then forgive me....

Problem sounds like it might be either some corruption in your sons profile or a file on the desktop (within your sons profile) causing this problem. To prove this login with a user with admin rights then find the C:\Users folder on your hard drive. Within this folder find your sons user folder then find the desktop folder within. Move (not copy) all items out of the desktop folder to somewhere else on the hard disk then try and login with your sons user again.

If the above doesn't fix the problem then rename your sons folder within C:\Users to something......try logging in again, hopefully a new profile folder will be created.

See if either of the above make the situation better.
