Hi
I am moving on to my second house and want to try and estimate the work needed.
Are there any good websites where you can see work done and estiamted prices?

Obviously once I by a house I will get people in, but whilst I am looking at houses, I'm trying to guess how much it would cost to for example:

Install double glazing
New Central heating
Knock through kitchen to living room
Put in patio doors at the back.

Now I know every job is different and will be differently priced due to house, style, quality, issues they find on the way.
But just wondering if people have posted online work they have done (be it forums or blogs), so I can start thinking about ideas and then reign in the stupidly expensive ones.

Thanks

Install double glazing -depends how many windows
New Central heating - depends what already there and size of property
Knock through kitchen to living room -depends , is it supporting wall.
Put in patio doors at the back. - depends on size and finish.

Yes I know there are a lot of variables, but there may be a site on the internet, where people put up stories and prices of work they have done.
i.e. Mr X with a 3 bed semi full rewired it, with x number of points in the rooms, he thought it would cost this, but ended up thigs

Mrs Y 2 bed Terrace (corrie style) doubled glazed, cost her this x amount

etc.

What it cost other will have no bearing on the costs to you.So it's a pointless exercise.

also depends on where you live prices vary from town to town (i can charge 50% higher in an affluent town like lymington against Southampton)

Yeah you are correct, i.e. different labour costs, finishes, products etc.
Maybe is was the ideas and tips as well that would have be welcome.
