If its like my '03' (what a bad design/idea anyway), press down gently on the bonnet as you are turning the key.

You probably already know (but i'll say it anyway just incase!) turn the key one way to pop the bonnet, and then the other way to release the catch

If it's the same poor design as the Mondeo, then you have a problem, the part that has broken is a nylon extension piece from the rear of the lock, to the actual bonnet catch mechanism.
To get to this you have a couple of options, either rip the grill out (to be replaced later) or cut round the inner perimeter of the plastic wich is normally covered by the swinging badge.
This will expose two shear head bolts, wich need to be drilled out, new shear head bolts cost approx £2 the pair.
Centre pop, and carefully drill out each of these bolts you see, (you will need some pressure), use a 6mm HSS drill bit, once the lock comes free you will find the nylon piece, one end is splined, the other end has a cross point like a screwdriver and fits into the bonnet catch.
It's usually the splined end that splits, it can be repaired, using a sleeve glued on.

If you want any further advice please ask.

can you not get to it from under the car,no doubt it will be a pig to see but on some cars it is possible.

Having read a few posts on the above and those for the Ford Mondeo where as similar problem can occur we decided to follow the advise of just cutting a small hole behind the swivelling Ford Badge with a Dremmel type drill cutter and were relieved that this gave access to the two headless bolts without the need to wreck the whole grill.....bolts were drilled out and the lock taken off and the bonnet opened by inserting a cross head screw driver blade in place of the linkage mechanism and simply turning it left then right as you would have done with the key....job sorted and no cost involved.....we now keep an old cross head screw driver in the glove box and will do without the lock. The Ford Badge swivels back to cover the hole we made......easy!!! No skinned knuckles trying to work from underneath against the radiator and probably just 20 mins of work as of course drilling the bolts out is a slow process.....
