Programmers and programmable room thermostats

Ok thanks for the replies. I understand with the bi metallic strip that it can take a while for the metal to contract back to its default shape and therefore call the boiler for heat again (temp may have dropped several degrees lower than the temp set on the roomstat).

However, if an electronic thermostat is more accurate, say it shuts the boiler off at a pre-set 20 degrees, when would it call for heat again? The second it drops down to 19.5 degrees?
