Trying to change a pull cord switch in my bathroom after the cord was cut to a mm by the previous owners (helpful)

I've removed the old switch and found two Red (live?) wires that were attached to the switch. There were also two Black wires which weren't attached to anything.

Where should these wires go in my new pull cord switch

So its safe to have just the two live wires connected and nothing else?!

Right, just bought a new switch.......... It has L1, L2 and COM..

Any suggestions on which wire to what?

Have I read it right that in the original you had one red wire in one terminal, one red wire in a different terminal on the switch, and the two blacks connected together but not to the switch ?

If so, stick one red in COM, and the other red in L1. Ideally if you know which Red is permanently live then stick that one in COM, but not frightfully important.....

EDIT: And make sure you turn the mains off first
