Hi. I have a Puma 80e combi gas boiler which has suddenly failed in terms of both heating and hot water. The flame LED does not come on when heating is called for from the thermostat, or when I run a hot tap. I have followed the fault-finding info from inside the casing, as follows:

Boiler to ON - run water - Red light on modulator board comes on - check fan (I can't hear a fan, just water running in pipes - should I be able to hear a fan running, and where is it?!) - relay on mod board operates - relay 2 operates as water tap turned on and off - 240v AC present on PL1. This leads to the conclusion that the fan should be replaced.

The only thing worrying me is that I can't see a fan anywhere unless it looks different somehow to other fans! Where is it, and is it easily replaced? And when I set the heating to come on there is a definite whirring noise, although this might be the pump - I can feel the pump vibrating slightly when this happens, but it's hard to tell where the sound comes from! And how would a fan affect the heating so completely - is it interlocked with crucual components somehow? Or are there other components i should be checking despite what the fault chart says?

Any advice/comments much appreciated. Thank you.

useless information #76

the fan comes on to remove exhaust gasses, when the fan is running it operates an air pressure switch, when this operates boiler will do next thing it is supposed to do
