A few weeks ago the light came on the dashboard indicating that a lamp had blown. Sure enough it was one of the tail lights.

I replaced it, and it worked but the warning light has been stuck on ever since. All the lights are working.

I've disconnected the battery incase something was latched in the diagnostics, to no avail.

Any ideas?

Are you sure you replaced it with the correct bulb? if so, try another bulb of the same spec ensuring you have good contacts and earthing at the holder.

;)

The warning lamp circuit works on resistances, so if you've replaced a 21 watt bulb with a 5 watt for example, then the light will stay on.

If it's a dual filiment bulb, then it might have been installed upside down?

A 5 watt came out and a 5 watt went in. All lights working, equal brightness.

Is it just a tail gate bulb, or a dual tailgate/brake bulb? 5W sounds extremely low for a rear bulb? I don't recall a car with a rear bulb that isn't also a brakelight? Sounds like a single filament bulb has been fitted where a dual element bulb should be fitted, and even they fit either way round, but give the effect of a short if fitted upside down.
