hi

I have bought a load of Dunlop Standard set floor and wall tile adhesive and the bag states that to tile onto plasterboard an appropriate primer/ sealer should be used along with an admix such as Dunlop flexible additive.

The plasterboard, because its a shower area, will be tanked using a Dunlop shower kit. Do i still need to prime / seal and add the admix to the adhesive? Presumably i will already have primed / sealed?

In anticipation of needing to prime / seal and / or add the admix i have been looking at Dunlop universal bonding agent which claims to be a multipurpose admix, sealer and primer and the Dunlop Flexible additive (but would this suffice to prime and seal, i get the impression it is only suitable as an admix?)

So much to consider, so many questions! Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yours, getting slowly dizzier,

Hi alp078,
The suitable Dunlop primer is the Dunlop Universal Bonding Agent. This should be diluted 2parts water : 1 part UBA and used wherever powdered, cement based adhesive is going to come into direct contact with plaster.
As you say, in the tanked areas this is already taken care of.
The Dunlop Flexible Additive is recommended when fixing to a boarded substrate like plasterboard (and it will also be necessary if using fully vitrified/porcelain tiles) and is not suitable as a primer.

Hope this helps.
