ahh the murky horrible world of internationalising software

the simplest soloution for a new setup would be to use utf-8 throughout but this leaves problems with converting data

i know neither this forum software (which i think is phpbb but its been stripped of any branding) nor yabb used on novoserve know how to deal with internationalised text
 
what appears to happen is the browser see the omega sign cannon be represented by the charset in use (probablly iso latin 1)

the browser therefore sends a unicode html entity

the bb software contains code to turn the text set by the client into something the browser will render as that text so your unicode html entity gets changed to Ω

which the broser renders as
Ω

hold ALT key, 937 at numeric pad (Num Lock on) produces the small omega character in the posting window ok ... but not in the submitted text.
