why would some of my lockshields seize up and shear off the flat off the spindle

Could be lack of inhibiter in system and rust has set in

Could be they are rubbish Myson Matchmates? - The thread helix is too great so they shear off even with clean water in the system.

Could it be that they were left fully open and then jammed/stuck because of this. No valve should be left fully open, always turn 1/4 turn closed afterwards

Hear hear. Doesnt the gland get wrecked?

What plumbers do that nowadays?
