:?: Hi

The drain that takes the guttering water away was blocked.

When I removed the leaves etc, I found that the 6" square cast iron gully cover
was leaning over, i.e. not being supported by the surround.

I thought that this surround would have been cast iron as well,
but it seems to be made of something else. Any ideas?

One whole side has disintegrated, and the other side is cracked in places.

I've removed the bricks that were built as a housing around the drain.

If I replicate the drain surround with concrete (fit the iron cover on top) do you
think that would be okay from buildings regs or from a surveyors view when we
come to sell the property.

If not, it seems I'll have to remove the whole top section and attach a new one
to a pipe/hopper - is this correct?

Many thanks.

Stephen

 Would it not be simpler to replace the gully?

For one thing how are you going recreate the trap with concrete?

Thanks noseall.

Not the trap - just the surround that holds the cast iron grid in place.

At the moment the iron grid is not horizontal - it's leaning/tipping down by about 1 inch.

This is because the surround has broken down to nothing.
