Hi,

I am going to get a raised deck built to cover a terraced area of garden. The highest point of the deck is appox 1m. above ground level. The deck will be approx 5m by 5m. I've had a local carpenter around to give me a quote and I asked him about how he would lay the posts and he said they would sit on concrete slabs but not secured into the ground or be physically attatched to the slabs. Is this acceptable because i thought the posts would have had to be in the ground as with a fence.

You can build a deck off of the slabs, dependent on how it is attached to teh walls etc, however at that height i would remove some of the slabs and concrete the posts in, either that or it would need to be bolted down with metal shoes to teh surface.
