No need to put the garage & outside lights on the RCD side.

Where is the office located? IMHO the office radial should be on the RCD side.

I assume that you are installing this to BS7671 16th edition? And that you have notified the local authority before starting work?

The office is on the ground floor with normal ring sockets in the room. But the radial circuit refers to a length of dado trunking on the wall containing a number of power and data sockets.

Is their a reason why the garage lights and outside lights should not be on the rcd? I just thought that as they were outside it would be better.

I am working to 16th and LABC have been notified and first fix has been inspected.

hi if you can take power from the garage to say a lawn mower
surely the garage should have RCD protection also the cable run from the house to the garage

Read his post.

Sockets Garage Ring
is on the RCD side.

Cables run from house to garage must have over current protection but not needed RCD protection for the cable itself.
You do need RCD protection for the application (eg sockets likely to be used to power portable equipment outdoors).

Edit: Reading between the lines I would guess the garage is attached to the house - may even have the consumer unit in there? Otherwise he would run a separate SWA feed to a detaached outbuilding..??

Garage sockets are on the RCD side, he said that garage lights didn't need to be on the RCD side.
No need to RCD protect a cable from the house to the garage as long as RCD protection is made available in the garage for sockets.

Garage lights and outside lights do not need to be on the RCD.

Thought it was implied by typing "garage and outside lights" but there ya go...

Does this sound ok then? Going to second fix it tomorrow.
