Hi, I hope some one can help me.
I have just bought xps insulationboards to lay on my concrete floor before carpeting. I figured it would be a good insulator and keep down any small amounts of damp.
The floor doesn't appear to have a damp proof membrane ( you can see a cross section in opening for cellar). The floor is very cold and the existing carpet smells mouldy. However there is little moisture on the actual concrete.
My problem is that the carpet fitter is refusing to fit a carpet on top of xps insulation and he wants to use only underlay. He has being fitting carpets on concrete floors for 30yrs bla bla .....I am a bit concerned as he doesn'teven know what a damp proof membrane is. I do not want to fit a new carpet that will smell mouldy in 6mths.
Any ideas?
