Hi,

I want to re-convert my loft space. When the house was built the loft space was built so that the loft could be used but not as a living space. i.e the roof is supported by 2 giant steel beams running the length of the house. The space has been plaster boarded out but only had access via a loft hatch. (do not know why it was not done properly to start with). There are 3 velux windows in situ but there is little or no insulation.

I need to put stairs in, rip out all of the plaster board and completely re-convert the space so that i can use it as a bedroom.

I want to do as much of the work as possible, myself but I don't know where to start.

Would you recommend employing an architect? Or is it possible to do it without. I presume I will need a structural engr to confirm that the steels in place are OK.

Just after a bit of a steer as to the order of work etc.

can anyone help

I don't mind replying to this post, especially as the other (via link) does not work!

Ditch the idea of the SE, I don't think you'll need him, but you do need to do a deal more reading.

Here's a few to get started with - the first gives you some idea of a schedule :
