When our conservatory was built in 1996 on the rear gable end of our bungalow we had the door and window removed to open up the room to the kitchen. Whilst the inner brickwork wall has a concrete lintel across the recess, the outer wall didn’t and the old wooden frame for the door and window appeared to give some kind of support to the outer brickwork wall. As a belt and braces measure we had an angle iron fitted to span the outer wall. The steel angle Iron measures 214mm x 90mm x 10mm and rests on the brickwork with an overlap of 160mm either side. The angle iron was inserted into the wall from the outside with the vertical side butted up against the outer wall, we then had it panelled over as per the picture.
We are planning to sell up in a few years and before we do we want to have some doors refitted back into the recess, ( 178mm Wide ), either sliding patio, french, or folding doors. This is so the conservatory conforms to the building regs, ie should be separate from the house with a lockable external door.
My questions is will the window fitters be able to fit the doors with the angle iron still in place, or would it be best they remove this ? I would use a window company who are FENSA registered.
Thanks in advance for any advise on this.
