re-painting skirting, rubbing down the old paint

Hi I'm repainting my old skirting with satin wood. How much do I have to sand the old paint down. Just a general rub down or really take off as much as possible with coarse paper?.

Just a light sand with fine sandpaper, you're only giving the new paint a key.

As above...

Just sand it enough to take some of the sheen off the old gloss.
