Hi Guys,

I'm looking to extend my existing black tarmac driveway and replace it with red tarmac. On checking the local driveway specialists, they only seem to show black tarmac on their 'Galleries'. Is red tarmac readily available and does it differ in any way other than just colour?

Cheers - Doug

Red macadam simply uses a red ingredient as opposed to a black to provide the difference in colour. The main difference I think you'll find is price, red macadam is a lot more expensive than black.

Red shouldn't be too difficult to get hold of, not all coating plants produce it, but you wont have to go to the opposite end of the country to get some. I would seek several quotes from reputable surfacing companies, and look at the other option e.g. block paving too.

Red tarmac? Are you going to pop a few tartan chintzy pillows in the corners too? Soooo last decade.
