My next door neighbour has just told me that as from next year you have to have a qualified electrician to do any electrical work in a house. wether it is adding plug sockets or just putting in a lightswitch. He says that this applies to every house owner who will not be allowed to do any electrical work to there own house.
Anyone else heard of this, or is he miss informed?

its partially true

all electrical works that anre't classed as minor works will either have to be submitted to building contorl for approval or done by an electrician who is a memeber of a self certification scheme

to what extent it will be enforced is another matter

minor works include any changes to an existing cuircuit that are not in a special location and any replacement work even in a special location
