I have bannisters and spindles that are covered in what appears to be wax. It has worn away in places and gathered up into bundles of wax. It is soft and sticky. If I want to get back to a white gloss finish - how should I achieve this. Thanks John

Lots of steel wool and white spirit to rub it down and loosen it, then rags and white spirit to wash it off. Then prime with oil based primer and carry on as normal.
