Renault Scenic 1.9 Dci garret turbo charger

Can anybody shed light on how much play there should be in the spindle / shaft. Ive recently bought a second hand Garret but there is some play in the spindle and I'm not sure if I'm wasting my time fitting it.

The original one's bearings went. Thanks for any feedback.

The simple answer is:
Much more than you would believe! Turbo's have a floating bearing that needs a good supply of oil to keep them happy - when they are dry the play is quite dramatic.
However, you have no idea of the oil seal condition, and the only way to find out is to bolt it on and give it a try, unfortunately.
