Renault Senic 02 Reg Automatic

This is a temporary vehicle until I have sorted my very sick 407 SW

But today on a motorway at 60 there was a loud clunk and lost transmission.

The auto gearbox fault light came on.

I moved to hard shoulder and found that putting it back in drive it would run but only in gear 2.

Parked at boot sale and after its driving normally again. Do you think low gearbox oil or other worse problem? Where is gearbox filler?

Auto gearboxes are often filled by using the dipstick tube, although I'm not familiar with that particular box.

Unfortunately ( but only in my opinion) Renault auto transmissions are the worse of all .....however, diagnostics of these auto boxes is excellent. Usually the problem turns out to be one of oil pressure rather than the oil level.
I'd recommend a chat with Renault or maybe an auto gearbox specialist about this one.
