Hello

My dining room ceiling has some water damage. It's not massive but too big for a 'bit of filler' :)

It is artexed with what I call the 'wave' pattern like this:

Is it possible to repair artex to get it 'close' to the original or is it a case of starting all over?

Any advise will be appreciated, thanks in advance ... Mick

You'll never patch any artex good enough, for it not to be noticed, especially a pattern done with a comb. ....To re-artex it again with the same combed pattern, you will either have to remove the whole lot back to a smooth/flat ceiling,, or plaster it flat. Either way it's a lot of work. Artex is pretty dated now too..

If you do decide to remove it, check it out first, because up until the middle eighties, it contained "small" amounts of asbestos. If your ceiling was textured after that , it should be ok,, but keep it damp if/when removing it, and of course, wear a mask.
