Our current sink which is under a window measures just 79cm from bottom of pedestal to basin then taps add a few extra cm. Replacing this but all basins/pedestals and vanity units now seem to measure about 88cm. This would bring the taps in line with window ledge and I don't know if they would have room to turn. How can I get round this problem?

Cut the top off the pedestal. Angle grinder, a few minutes.

get a basin made by a decent company and wall mount the basin. Then use a chrome waste trap.

Or fit a wall mounted basin as brummylad said and use a half pedestal which covers pipes and waste;

Or use a vanity unit and basin, shorten the legs and the plinth on the unit.
