My question is, as I have been quoted massively varying prices and advice, what do gas engineers on here think?
3 bed end terraced house, one bathroom, 7 radiators, 2 floors. Lancs.
Currently a 25+yr old Baxi system boiler in a standard single kitchen cupboard that got flooded with melted ice water in frozen pipes before the system was drained down. I've been informed that it wouldn't be cost effective to repair/replace parts as for a start the heat exchanger needs replacing and bearing in mind it's age it's better to replace now.
First quote was between £1200-1500 to rip out and dispose of 2 water tanks + old boiler+flu, rip out and replace/repair pipework as necessary, fit new valves to rads. Budget combi boiler, probably Gloworm or the like.
Second quote as above but Vailant 24i boiler(5 year warranty) £2400
Npower for all the above + system flush + magnaclean filter + 5 year warranty and 2 years heating care £2800
I'd go for the first option as it's within my acceptable budget with perhaps a better boiler if needed, but that engineer is now unavailable.
I've looked at my local plumbers merchants who have recommended Ideal Logic+ with 5 years warranty. Are these generally reliable? Any other recommendations? How much should I be paying in labour costs?
