Hi
We have flat finish Lathe and Plaster ceilings in dire need of some TLC and looking into changing them. Can we board straight over them, screwing into the joists above or do we need to baton and then board? I've changed a plasterboard ceiling before and know how messy that is, let alone a lathe and plaster one! Also, in this situation will we get a poor result from just drylining?

Cheers

Board over the top with 12.5mm plasterboard and as long as its neat you can tape and joint but the finish will be as good as your ability ;)

Thanks jbonding
Is it worth using foil backed boards in the upstairs rooms? Just thinking about attic ventilation when the insulation gets done.

Thanks for your help. I guess the argument between drylining and plaster finish swings towards the latter? Over here in NZ, all the new builds are drylined (Grade 4 finish) and I have to say it's very effective, although in the wrong light, some areas look terrible. If I just board over, I guess the boards could be uneven (old ceiling) and so a plaster finish would be better anyway.
