what would be sufficient to keep in line with building regs etc to replace a elson tank. will a tap stat be sufficient or something else. not much space in the loft ive recommended a combi boiler to do away with tanks etc.

If you are only replacing the tank then I don't think the energy efficiency regs about boiler interlock etc will apply so a tap stat should be ok, but you will still have to insulate all pipes off the new cylinder for at least 1M or until they disappear into the wall or ceiling.
